Homeboy Landon Donovan left the prestigious German Bundesliga twice and returned to play professionally on US soil. In doing so, he was telling youth soccer players in this country that it's OK to stay home, that it's nothing to be ashamed of, that playing overseas is not the only road to the World Cup, that sometimes, being close to those you love is more important than being close to the world's best players.
